Prepping to Eat Right
Welcome to Dispatch Education!! We are Lisa and Bethany. Today we want to talk about eating right and prepping to eat right. This is one of my new favorite things. I used to be one of those people who blindly went through life not planning any meals. Then I learned that meal planning not only saved me money but that it helps me to eat better, more nutrient rich meals.
Today we have three tips for you to help you eat better through prepping your food. Our first tip is to plan healthy snacks. Now this does not mean that you have to eat dry rice cakes or bland tofu. By healthy snacks we mean replacing your chips and dip with veggies and dip. Or replacing your break room cookies with fruit.
Our second tip is to plan out a week of meals. There are a lot of resources online to help you plan well. One way that I do this is to plan to cook something like a whole chicken or cook extra chicken all at one time. Then I use it for multiple meals.
I like to do all of my prep in one day. So on Sunday afternoons, I prepare all of our breakfasts and lunches for the week. I also make sure that any veggies that I can pre-cut for evening meals are done. I will also take anything out of the freezer that needs a day or two to thaw. This makes my morning go smoother because I do not have to think about what we are going to eat for breakfast or take for lunch.
I prep fun containers with snacks that are grab and go healthy items. The containers make the fridge or pantry look festive and it makes me smile when I grab something out of them. I always have cut up veggies, fruit, hummus cups, and other easy snacks ready to go.
Leftovers are your friend. When you are thinking through your meals, always plan for a portion or two extra that can be used for lunch the next day. When your dinner is ready, take those portions out first and pack away. Then you have a healthy lunch for the next day.
That is it. Let is know your healthy prepping tips in the comments below or on Facebook. See you next time!
