Work Life Balance
WORK LIFE BALANCE, Ugh. Just saying these words can make me feel a little guilty because it is difficult. When you work 10, 12, 14 or more hour shifts your life may seem to disappear. We do not have perfect solutions because the reality is that you work a tough job. We want to give you five things that you can do to help alleviate a little of the work life struggle.
First, make the most of your time at work. What do I mean by this? Workout while you work. Take time between calls to stretch, do simple exercises, walk around the room. You don’t have to fit in an hour workout at the gym if you maximize the time in between calls at work. Make it fun and get your colleagues to join you.
Second, unplug at home. We spend a lot of time staring at screens. I am guilt of it. It is easy to go home and get lost in a world of screen time. I have to make a conscious effort to not do that and focus on the people and life around me.
Third, eat right. I know easier said than done but it is true. When we give our bodies the nutrition that they need, it is easier for them to process stress. Keep fruit at work. Eat veggies instead of chips. Make simple changes that can impact and improve your day to day.
Fourth, stay hydrated. I know that most adults are fueled by caffeine, but consider throwing in an occasional bottle or two of water. Water is good for your brain cells and we help refresh and focus you.
Finally, be honest with yourself about your commitments. Don’t over commit. Give yourself margins to relax, run errands, do the laundry. It is easy to say yes to everything but it is okay to say no and limit what you commit to do.
Those are our simple steps. We hope you find a little help in them. Don’t forget to follow us here and on Facebook. See you next time!!
